Exterior Woodwork
Exterior woodwork means any woodwork on the outside of a property. The type of wood varies but will be either hardwood or softwood, whichever it is it will require maintenance on a regular basis. The types of surfaces vary but in general they can be doors, windows, fascia and soffit boarding. Some older properties have differing features but are generally the same. Exterior woodwork requires re-painting every four to six years but can last longer if you’re lucky. The paint you use and quality of preparation will determine how long the work done will last. All exterior woodwork requires an exterior paint on it as this is more durable than Interior products. Some woodwork on properties may require varnishing, stains or preservatives on them; these allow the woodwork to be seen as the coating is translucent. If maintenance is not completed regularly then woodwork can.
Exterior Masonry
Exterior masonry means any natural or manmade stonework that is exposed on the exterior of your property. This can be lime plasters, rendering, and brickwork and limestone surfaces mainly on window cills or surrounds.
The type of paint used for most masonry surfaces are masonry paints which are water based some with sand in for extra durability but mainly smooth. Stone window surrounds or window cills could also have a traditional exterior gloss on them.
Exterior MetalWork
A number of surfaces on the exterior of properties can be metal and require different processes. These can be garage doors, windows, gutters and downpipes or metal staircases. If the maintenance is not done on a regular basis metalwork can easily corrode.
